Our CEO Dr. Matthias Hackl, a leading expert in microRNA biomarker discovery, small RNA sequencing, and IVD development, has been invited as a lecturer at this year’s Jyväskylä Summer School at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. As part of the course BIO1: MicroRNA Biology and Function (4–6 August 2026), he will join an international team of experts from Helsinki, Kuopio, and Jyväskylä to deliver a lecture on microRNA biomarker discovery, validation, and clinical application, titled: “microRNAs as Biomarkers: Discovery, Validation, and the Path to Clinical Application”
Participants will:
- Understand what constitutes a clinically useful biomarker and how signal-to-noise ratio and pre-analytical, analytical, and biological variability impact biomarker study design
- Learn how small RNA sequencing (next-generation sequencing, NGS) using spike-ins (miND®) enables the discovery of cell-free, circulating microRNA biomarkers in liquid biopsies, and what analytical considerations determine biomarker candidate selection
- Be able to outline the key steps from biomarker discovery through analytical and clinical validation to assay development
- Understand the regulatory pathway for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) development, including the role of standards such as ISO 13485 and CE marking under IVDR
The course is part of the Summer School’s Biology and Environmental Science track and is aimed at students and early-career researchers from around the world. As a case study, the lecture will also highlight TAmiRNA’s journey as a microRNA biomarker and small RNA sequencing company — from early biomarker discovery research to miND®, TAmiRNA’s ISO 13485-certified, commercially successful IVD product for circulating microRNA biomarker analysis.
The Jyväskylä Summer School brings together students and researchers from around the world for two intensive weeks (3–14 August 2026) of interdisciplinary courses spanning the natural sciences and information technology — from biology and chemistry to physics, mathematics, quantum science, and cyber security. Taught in English by top international lecturers, the courses combine rigorous academic content with a lively social program, offering participants both a deep dive into cutting-edge research and the chance to connect with peers from across the globe.
TAmiRNA provides small RNA sequencing, microRNA biomarker discovery, and IVD assay development services to academic and industry partners worldwide — supporting projects from biomarker candidate identification through analytical and clinical validation to regulatory-compliant, ISO 13485-certified assay development.
We’re proud to see our expertise in microRNA biomarkers shared on an international stage!
